She Needs A Little Help

Emmy is a newish homeowner and she really doesn't have a green thrum bo she has called in the 'experts' to help her add a little something to her yard.

She says we can do whatever we want but just no junk!  We have ideas about some simple things and most of the plants will come from our yard because we have lots to share.  We might purchase a bush or a tree.  It just depends on how we arrange the other things.

Oh, the backyard is another story.  First, she needs to take care of the trees.  nd then we brainstorm.  I have an awesome idea already in my head just don't know how to pull it off.

I Found Some Color In The Yard Before It Rained

The ants are doing their thing on the peonies.  Both bushes have lots of buds this year.

Clematis survived the yahoos and the winter.

New Berries Going In

I have been waiting on these plants since forever.

Reading all the instructions to make sure we do it right.  Soak the bare-root plants in warm water.

Carefully trim all the dead stuff off.  I had a helper.

Trim the roots to about three inches.

50 plants...two different types of berries.

These are the berry plants we planted in the first bed.

 

There were a few plants from last year along the edges.

Bed number two had Seascapes in it.

I can still stand and bend over to work in the garden.  Counting my lucky stars.

I'm talking to every plant.

All done.  Now just waiting on the blooms which I have to remove the first year.  The plants need to build up strength so next year they will produce better berries.

A Little Landscape Therapy

I wish I had gotten a before pic.  This once was a flower bed like the one at the top of the pic.  The boards were removed probably two years ago and it looked like we had a body buried in the back yard.  I asked Mark if before he took the tiller to it if he would dig up all the bulbs and I would try to plant them somewhere int he yard.  He seems to think that this would be a great place to plant lettuce, maybe zucchini...something.  Who is he kidding?  The dogs will dig it up faster than we could plant it.

We edged the front bed and I planted the bulbs.  We will see if they take.  You usually plant bulbs in the fall.

Naked Garden

We have had a little time on our hands lately so it took a few days to tackle the garden.

We had a great crop of thistle started! UGH!  And those little green things in the front bed are strawberry plants.  OI think this is their third year.  We are getting more but decided to leave these to see what they would do if anything.  Strawberries going in the two larger beds.  Herbs in the three smaller ones.  We haven't decided what is going in the tower garden yet.

We took a break and started researching the Tower Garden.

A Little Yard Clean-Up With Pappy

Imogene stayed far enough away not to get under our feet.  Smart dog.

Cleaning up around the chicken cook getting it ready to sell.  Just can't talk him into anymore.  And believe me, I have tried.  I'll be doing a blog about the coop, run, and all the chicken things we have for sale a little later on.

Buring up everything we can.  Make for a great campfire.  Love the smell of a good campfire.  The goats ate all the green off the Christmas tree so we burn the rest.

We removed all of the split rails fencing that we used to define the flower beds.  But now they are used at the bottom of the fence panels to keep the dogs from digging under.  You remember Harry and Houdini?

What we didn't burn or used at the fence, line we stacked to use for campfires.

We are getting there slow but sure.  Mrk thinks the backyard looks better than it has in years.  I do not agree...we have a long way to go yet.  Baby steps and we will have it finished by the end of summer.
