For the last two day in between the raindrops we have been weeding, edging, and mulching.  I literally have to use the nail brush for 10 minutes to get them clean.  This is the time of the year when I consider putting polish on my nails to hide the dirt.

We have decided to only mulch the front and sides of the yard....for obvious reasons if you are keeping up with NottaLotta Farm Blog link on the side of this page)

Everything is filling in nicely.  We have learned to wait until the trees stop dropping their stuff.  The huge burning bush looks so small now that Pappy has trimmed it.

With Michael's help, we got finished in record time on this side.  I think our little three-man landscaping team did a great job.

I just love a full green freshly mulched flower bed.  In the next few days, there will be clematis and peonies blooming.

Looking great if I so say so myself!

A Little Yard Work

. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 .
Lots of Jack In The Pulpit springing up under the hosta and Naked ladies.

Soloman's Seal...it may survive because the chickens have not touched it...yet.

It will be interesting to see what the hosta will look like when the are fully blooms.  Tight now they look like some kind of skinny lettuce.

Our ferns are headless.  Those darn chickens popped them right off and ate them.

We have decided to work on the front yard this summer.  We are in the process of weeding and mulching.  Hoping to get it really looking good for a good first impression because the backyard is a-la-natural this summer.  The animals are very helpful I eating the weeds and scuffing up the dirt.  But then sometimes they get carried away and taste things or scratch things that are supposed to be left alone.  I need a bigger farm!

A Different Look This Year

. .
Smells so sweet I wish I could line the back fence with them.  I think it is some sort of viburnum.

Smells So Sweet

Found these beauties while cutting the grass.

And tucked in behind the gate when it is opened I found this, might be the only variegated Lily of the Valley I have.

Surprise

Flowers are popping out all over the place in spite of the cold weather and snow.

Okay, I do know that these are weeds.  But I still love the bright yellow.

The Sarah Napier peony is taking off.

And the Shirley Temple is not far behind.

A sign of spring for me...thanks Betsy for sharing the bulbs.

Daffodils are everywhere you look.

Need to get these babies in the ground even though they seem to be growing right there in the shovel.
